Three NFL St. Louis Cardinals games (Redskins & Browns) now on DVD!

Description: 1966 NFL "Games of the Week"(Weeks 2, 3 and 15)ST. LOUIS FOOTBALL CARDINALS vs:Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns All 3 games in Color on one DVD! This new 77-minute DVD shows three original NFL “Game of the Week” TV shows: the St. Louis Cardinals playing first the Washington Redskins, then the Cleveland Browns – both the week 3 upset at old Municipal Stadium as well as the season-ending Browns game at brand new Busch Memorial Stadium in downtown St. Louis! In week two of the 1966 season, the Cardinals host new head coach Otto Graham’s Washington Redskins in rainy St. Louis. Jim Gibbons narrates as Jim Bakken’s 2nd qtr. FG gives St. Louis a 3-0 lead. The Redskin’s only score of the day comes on a third and goal at the Cardinal 7 when Sonny Jurgensen throws a TD pass to Bobby Mitchell, giving the Redskins a 7-3 lead. Another Bakken FG from 13 yards out brings St. Louis closer at 7-6 in the third quarter, and to start the final period, Bakken hits again on an 11-YD boot to lift the Cardinals back into the lead, 9-7. On the kickoff runback, Redskin Rickie Harris fumbles after a hit by John McDowell and Dave O’Brien recovers for St. Louis on the Washington 25-yd line! Almost immediately Johnny Roland rips off a 22-yd TD run and St. Louis is now ahead 16-7! Later in the period, a Steve Thurlow fumble is recovered by Joe Robb on the Washington 44. QB Charlie Johnson’s 29-yd pass to Jackie Smith and then another to Sonny Randle moves the ball closer to the Washington end zone. Johnson’s 11-yd touchdown pass to Smith then brings the final score to 23-7 and Cardinal coach Charlie Winner’s Cards are 2-0 on the season with their second straight win! The Cardinals are at Cleveland the following week to challenge last year’s Eastern Conference champion Browns! Jim Bakken kicks off, Leroy Kelly takes the ball on the Cleveland seven and the Browns begin a 93-yd TD drive which ends as Ernie Green takes a screen pass from QB Frank Ryan into the end zone on a 23-yd run. Lou Groza kicks off and rookie Roy Shivers takes the ball at the six and immediately ties the score 7-7 with an electrifying 94-yard KO return! On the Browns next drive, a Ryan to Paul Warfield 51-yd pass play moves the ball to the Cardinal 19. A subsequent pass to Warfield draws pass interference from Jimmy Burson and then Kelly scores from a yard out to put Cleveland back on top, 14-7. To begin the 2nd period, two long passes from Charlie Johnson to Bobby Joe Conrad and Billy Gambrell bring St. Louis even again at 14-14! On the next St. Louis possession, Willis Crenshaw fumbles away the ball on the Cardinal 7-yard line, giving the Brown’s a great opportunity to score again. But the Redbirds hold Cleveland to Groza’s FG try which hits the crossbar and bounces away, and the score remains tied! Late first half in a steady rain, Abe Woodson fields Groza’s 47-yd FG attempt, but fumbles the ball on his runback and the Browns recover on the Cardinal 16 In two plays Ryan’s pass to Kelly results in a 6-yd TD, and the Browns are ahead 21-14 at halftime! In the opening moments of the third quarter, Leroy Kelly gets loose on a 57-yd TD run and the Browns increase their lead to 28-14. But soon, a Johnson to Jackie Smith pass results in a 57-yd TD by Smith, bringing the Cards back to within a TD, 28-21. Late in the 3rd quarter, a Ryan for Kelly pass is picked off by Larry Wilson who is then stopped at the Cleveland 15. From the Cleveland nine, Johnson’s TD pass to Billy Gambrell ties the score 28-28 at the end of three periods. Charley Johnson then leads the Cardinals on a 4th quarter 73-yd TD drive on passes to Smith and Conrad, plus runs by Prentice Gautt, his 23-yarder the winning TD in a 34-28 Cardinal victory. To end the regular season the Browns traveled to new Busch Stadium, St. Louis. Once again in ’66, injuries to QB Charlie Johnson, Sonny Randle, Bob DeMarco, Ken Gray and Pat Fischer sent the club reeling, as the Redbirds lost four of their last five games – including this one! The first quarter is scoreless, as Gary Collins does more punting than receiving. In the second period, Jim Bakken boots a 10-yd FG and St. Louis leads 3-0. Later backup QB Terry Nofsinger scores on a 1-yd QB sneak and the Cardinals now lead 10-0. Frank Ryan finds Gary Collins behind defender Larry Wilson and Gary’s 42-yd TD reception puts the Browns on the scoreboard, 10-7. Then, with only 11 seconds left in the first half, Lou Groza’s 37-yd FG ties the game 10-10 at intermission. The third quarter is all Browns, who open up a 24-10 lead on a Ryan to Collins 44-yd TD pass and a two-yard Kelly TD plunge. Cleveland’s lead mounts to 31-10 in the 4th quarter when Ernie Green catches a Ryan pass and runs it in from the 19. On the Brown’s next possession, Clifton McNeil catches a 50-yd TD bomb from Ryan, boosting the Cleveland lead to 38-10. That ends the scoring, but not the action. Browns backup QB Jim Ninowski throws an incomplete sideline pass to Walter Roberts, ridden out of bounds by Cardinals DB Bobby Williams, who pushes Roberts to the ground after the play, and is flagged by the officials. Taking exception, “The Flea” goes after Williams who tries to escape the hoard of Browns on the sidelines who have seen the incident. Erich Barnes also gets in on the action. A mele unfolds and both Williams and Roberts are ejected. Young QB Jim Hart sees action at the end of the game for St. Louis. DVD will be shipped by Media Mail.
