DESCRIPTION This fascinating necklace and clip-on earrings were created by Alfred Philippe for Trifari in early 1950’s. They are not from the same collection and not a part of a set. We took liberty to combine them in one listing based on the unique luxurious design embellished with stones of various cut. Also both necklace and earrings were included in Trifari Christmas jewelry colllections - the most prestigious and dazzling jewelry of the year. The necklace “Gem of India” is from Christmas collection 1951 and the clip-on earrings “Flirtation” are from Christmas collection 1953. The necklace was a part of “Gem of India” collection created by Alfred Philippe for Trifari in early 1950’s. As shown in Trifari’s Advertisement from 1951: “It wouldn’t be Christmas without Trifari”.US Patent 164,716 for Necklace design was filed on 4 June 1951 by Alfred Philippe, chief designer of Trifari. This necklace from “Gem of India” collection was featured in Julia Carroll book “Collecting Costume Jewelry 202”, 2d Edition, page 243. The clip-on earrings were a part of the best-selling “Flirtation” collection also by Alfred Philippe as shown in Trifari’s Advertisement from 1953: "She will knew it's Christmas when you give her Jewels by Trifari" The design was first filed for brooch with navette stones in 1953 - US Patent 170,208 by Alfred Philippe and was followed by several design patents for more brooches, earrings and necklaces with similar designs. You may see other pieces from this collection in Julia Carroll book “Collecting Costume Jewelry 202”, 2d Edition, page 253. This beautiful necklace set with large stunning pear-shaped stone accented by crystals of various shapes: chaton, baguette, nanette and marquise stones. The setting is gold-tone and exquisitely crafted. The front piece of the necklace measures approximately 6 cm wide and is attached to a snake chain that closes with a fold-over clasp.
