Description: From a Casas Adobes estate here in Tucson is this southwestern baroque pair of Ramone (Ramon) Platero turquoise and silver clip earrings. Platero's vintage efforts are well regarded, and the offered I believe 1960's or so wearable artworks clearly demonstrate the reason why. Each earring features an attractive blue stone complemented by a chisel embellished rolled ingot holly leaf. This distinctive silver leaf is a Platero signature of sorts, as he pioneered its use as an ornamental motif in mid century Navajo jewelry. So you know, the notched bezels are another early detail. Platero's compositional aesthetic and tastefully executed silver serve up their visual magic, reflecting the skill of a departed artisanal master who always remained true to his own sensibilities. Leaf aside, there is a strong "R PlaTero" (the "a" and "e" actually done in upper case) chisel stamped to the back of one earring in the idiosyncratic and absolutely correct manner for this artist. Weight is very good for the form at about total 10.6 total grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is quite fine with a nice aura of time to the silver surfaces. Be aware I have avoided every urge to refresh away or "improve" upon any natural toning - you want that done you do it. The stones are well preserved. Under magnified inspection one shows a highly unobtrusive fine tight line that was there when set - I'm mentioning this for absolute accuracy. The original trader supplied clip fittings work exactly as they should All evidence of previous ear duty simply validate the history. That's nitpicking for the obsessive, and a look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition - an attractive Ramone Platero duo from what is now the long ago. One earring is about 1 3/32 in. vertical and 13/16 in. horizontal. The other is about 1 1/32 in. vertical and 25/32 in. horizontal - the very (very) slight discrepancy accounted for by their hand crafting. Yes, they will be noticed when worn about. If you are partial to vintage southwestern adornment by award winning artisans, or simply wish a single immediate improvement to the ambiance of each day, these will have great meaning for you inkfrog terapeak
