Reprint Hoketsuki by Sadatake Ise INTRODUCTION: This book "Hoketsu-ki" is a two-volume introduction to the writings of Sadatake Ise, a researcher of etiquette in the Edo period. The original work is "Hoketsuzusetsu (=illustrated guide to wrapping and knotting)" published in 1840.The first volume contains the full text and all the diagrams of the famous works "Tsutsumi-no-ki(=Manners of wrapping)" and "Musubi-no-ki(=How to tie)". The descriptions are as faithful as possible to the originals. Japanese modern translation is included. Contains about 25 folding forms and about 80 knotting techniques. Volume 2 is a detailed guide to the actual practice of wrapping and knotting, based on the author's reading of the original. All content is in Japanese. HoketsuzusetsuIn 1840, the book was published under the title "Hoketsuzusetsu, " based on "Tsutsumi-no-ki" and "Musubi-no-ki," which was written by Sadatake Ise around 1760. As he writes in this book, this content originates from a case study adopted by the Ashikaga shogunate in the Muromachi period. It consists of two volumes: the upper volume, Wrapping, explains how to wrap gifts in washi paper, and the lower volume, Knotting, explains the basics of tying knots, mainly for decoration. In this book by Makio Araki, the wrapping and knotting techniques are combined into one volume. Sadatake IseSadatake Ise has an ancestor of the Ise family, which was in charge of the etiquette of the samurai during the Muromachi period. Great-grandfather, Sadahira Ise, served the Tokugawa Shogunate from the Edo period, and the Ise family was a firm presence in the shogunate, backed by its possession of a vast amount of information on etiquette precedents from the Muromachi period. In the middle of the Edo period, Tadatake was engaged in research and writing on yusoku kojitsu (=government positions, ceremonies, and costumes based on their ancient precedents.) Author, Makio ArakiMakio Araki is one of the most prominent researchers on Orikata, and is also well versed in traditional Japanese celebratory items (items traditionally used for weddings and funerals), including Orikata. He is the author of several books on orikata. -------------------- All content is in Japanese.
