Description: Hello, Here we have some Golden Barrel Cactus seeds from Las Vegas, Nevada. These were collected May 2017 from our family home. There are many ways of sprouting seeds, please see the following guide that has helped me propagate my seedlings. 1)Place the seeds in some water to soak overnight.2)Fill germination trays with cactus potting soil.3)Distribute the seeds evenly in the germination tray. 4)Place the trays in full sun and keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate in approximately 4 to 6 weeks. I cover the trays with cling-wrap to maintain moisture. They will look like small pencil erasers, red in color not green.5)When the small cacti start to sprout tiny needles, use a pair of tweezers to transfer them from the propagation trays into 5 cm (2 inch) pots filled with the same soil mix used in the germination trays. Spines: Golden Brown Color, forming dense clusters along the ribs. They are medium and slightly hooked. Cactus thorns are modified leaves. Their shape conserves water and adds protection to the cactus plant. Fruit: The fruits, round or oblong blue fruits that are about 1/2 inch in diameter. Seeds: Black oval - about 1/32 inch in length. Found: Native of central Mexico, in the Querétaro State of Mexico. Under the lake formed by the Zimapán Dam. Some are still on the slopes of the lake.They can also be found in Zacatecas, Mexico. A few are still growing in the wilderness of the state of Querétaro, Mexico. Elevation: 3,281 - 5,249 in native habitat. But it is warmer in its native habitat of Mexico.
