Description: Richard Rush was the son of Benjamin Rush, founding father, and an American diplomat, attorney and statesman who negotiated treaties with Great Britain, served in a variety of political positions, including Comptroller of the Treasury under James Madison, and spent many years as diplomat in Europe including during the 1848 revolution in France. He was instrumental in securing the legacy of James Smithson from England, thus instrumental in the founding of the Smithsonian Museum. The “occasional productions” of the title are selections by the executors of his estate of various writings thought to be important or influential including a sketch of the domestic life of Washington and an overview of the court of Louis-Philippe of France. From the Library of the German Society of Philadelphia, there are several red stamps from the library inside as well as boldly written numbers inside the front.
