Description: 1848 France, by Houzelot Death of Chateaubriand, 31.5mm, Bronze Choice Mint State Gorgeously toned cobalt and lilac hues, with considerable amounts of mint red, especially on the obverse Hard, semi-reflective luster in the fields. Interesting buckled collar shows on each side at 12:00 along the rim. A high-relief portrait has gone unscathed, and the overall appearance is approaching gem quality. We note a light edge nick between 11:30 to 12:00 that does not affect either obverse or reverse, but which nevertheless has been accounted for in our grade. Chateaubriand was among the most famous writers of the 19th century, particularly in his home country, France. The high-relief portrait appears to copy the circa 1810 painting of Chateaubriand by Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson.
