SO I THINK THESE WERE PERHAPS MADE FOR GARMENTS WORN IN WWI BECAUSE BY WWII NONE OF THE COAT BUTTONS WERE FLAT ON THE BACK. I HAVE BEEN SELLING MILITARY BUTTONS FOR OVER 24 YEARS AND THESE WERE THE FIRST I HAVE RECEIVED IN THIS SIZE 3/4 INCH- THE MORE COMMON NAME ANCHOR BUTTONS ARE ONLY 5/8 INCH ACROSS AND WERE USED ON SHIRTS AND PANTS BEFORE ZIPPER WERE INVENTED. I THINK THE BUTTONS HERE WERE MADE FOR JACKETS OR SHIRTS BUT NOT NEAR AS MANY AS THE SMALLER SIZE, I BOUGHT A LARGE LOT OF THESE BUTTONS FROM A US ARMY SURPLUS STORE. I try to keep ALL KINDS OF NAVY AND OTHER MILITARY BUTTONS in stock-search my eBay store under buttons if you need more or less than what is offered here-I always combine multiply sales for shipping savings-but wait for invoice for best price.
